Food Hunt

Since I am leaving soon, I have been exploring more food places around Saint John.

Sesame crusted seared tuna loin with wasabi aioli
Tuna was supposed to be medium rare but it was a little too cooked when they served it
Wanted to try it medium rare :O
But still not bad a dish.

Montreal style smoked meat sandwich.
Love the generous portion of meat since I am a meat lover!
I like it that it was more moist than the one I had in Montreal,
but it tasted just like ham instead of smoked meat.

Agedashi tofu, so-so only.

Spicy salmon roll
Fired spicy tuna roll with avocado, teriyaki & spicy mayo
My Korean friend recommended me this and it was really good!

Shitake roll

Seafood sashimi salad with salmon, tuna, octopus, prawn & squid
Finally got to try tuna!

Supposed to be in NYC from 1 to 5 November but thanks to Hurricane Sandy plans got cancelled. I guess not being able to travel NYC will be one of my greatest regret for this exchange. I am travelling SO LITTLE that I can't believe it either. Almost 3 months here and I have only been to Toronto and Niagara Falls. And whale watching but it was only a day trip I wouldn't consider it travel. Omg so pathetic. This is so different from what I have imagined. I am glad I got along with my friends much better I thought I would, that my apartment is so awesome, that this is such a safe and pretty place, that I am able to unleash my culinary and baking potential and so on, but just disappointed at how little I have travelled. So jealous of people who have been travelling so much. Exchange should be 80% travelling and 20% studying, but it's not the case for me. I blame it on school, because the cohort is SO SMALL, it's so hard to skip lessons without getting noticed, and the tons of assignments and deadlines which make it impossible to go away. We are too responsible for our own good. If only we could just forget about studies. 3 midterms and 3 assignments due really soon, hello late nights.

My frozen dinner from 2 nights ago. Thai peanut chicken linguine. I like the sauce! This costs about 2.50 cad, I won't mind getting it again. Good for a lazy day when I don't feel like cooking.

Went to city market yesterday again. Decided to go for Korean food. Spicy pork with japchae! Omg I LOVE IT. It's actually the sweet potato vermicelli that I have cooked before. The spicy sauce was so savoury! There is so much to try at the city market!

Prepared this brunch for myself. (Y)

Happy Birthday G!

It was G's 21st yesterday! We decided to go out for pizzas which is a 2 min walk from our place. Not very fantastic, but still a satisfying dinner.

BBQ chicken

Hawaiian

Veggie

Chicken wings with honey garlic sauce

Surprised her with a chocolate truffle cake at home.
Love the super thick and yummy chocolate!!

Dessert with ice wine is the bombz

Headed to town today after mass. Wanted to go to the city market to get groceries but it is not open. Saw a burger place and lunched there instead. IT WAS SO AWESOME, IM SO GLAD WE CHANCED UPON IT.

HUGE BURGER! To make up for not being able to go to NYC.

Turkey, crispy bacon, smoked paprika onion frites with BBQ sauce
NICEST BURGER I HAVE EATEN IN AWHILE

Made a card for G!
Prettiest card I have ever hand made from scratch! So proud of it! :D

There is a funny story behind this. I was actually making this card when G was around, but I was pretending that I was making for another friend. While TY was writing her message, G decided to come over and look at the card. OMG THE HORROR. I faster took a piece of paper and covered up her name and wrote DEBORAH. LOL Deborah are you reading this? And I took maple leaves to cover the messages. So proud of myself, she didn't suspect a thing! I thought I would have given the surprise away :/ Then I realized I forgot to remove the 'GSTC' on it! Asked her later at night and she said she saw it but she thought we were telling Deborah about GSTC. Phew so I guess I managed to cover up pretty well (Y)

Happy 21st G! Hope you liked everything we prepared for you :)

TGIF

Despite 2 assignments due this Monday, we decided to put aside everything and enjoy our Friday night! I think this is the first time we headed out on a Friday night. We have been stuck at home for too long so we treated ourselves to LOBSTERS today. It all started because we did a case study on the fishing industry in class and the prof went on to talk about lobsters. Got me craving for lobster so badly! I think it is my first time eating a lobster like this.

Three of us shared a set of lobsters for two! It costs 32 cad each after taxes and service charge!

Started off with mussels. Pretty surprised that it came in such a large quantity!
It was so fresh and good I ate one after another!!

Clam chowder. OMG this was the yummiest clam chowder I have ever tasted.
Thick and creamy with bits of seafood in it. Already missing this now :O

We had a choice of 2 side dishes as well. Chose a baked potato as one of it.
Was initially disappointed that it didn't come in mayo and bacon bits like how it will usually be served, but it actually tasted good on its own! The potato was sweet! Pretty healthy with all the veggies and tomatoes. Even the cherry tomatoes was good!

For the second side dish, we picked mashed potato!
This was special because you can still taste bits of potatoes inside.

Finally the main dish!!!  Virgin experience eating a lobster.
Love the meat!! Super fresh and succulent. YUMS. It was definitely worth the money!

After dinner, we went to another place for drinks! Ordered some desserts as well. Really splurging like free.

Seasonal crumble cake with vanilla ice cream.
This was good, but we can make it ourselves too! Tasted somewhat similar to oatmeal bars which we baked before.

Chocolate guinness cake with whisky caramel in it.
Couldn't really taste the alcohol, was more of a typical chocolate cake, still yummy nonetheless!

My St. Ambroise apricot ale. Couldn't finish it because I was pretty full by then.
The fruit beer wasn't as sweet/fruity I expected it to be. :/
This beer only cost me about 6 CAD. So cheap compared to Singapore, will definitely want to go back there again for other drinks!

Mini shopping spree

Went to Walmart for a mini shopping spree yesterday! Phew it didn't rain in the end. I'm so happy with my loots! Bought 2 pairs of pants (camel & blue), a super comfy PJ, a scarf and ear muffs! It was all pretty cheap, but I still felt a littttttle guilty because I haven't spent so much in awhile. It has always been food expenditure :/ BUT I'M STILL VERY HAPPY. Managed to take a break from studies and spent some me time. It felt really good to be on my own for that few hours, just exploring and shopping around. I think I really enjoy solitude.

My loots :D

Met up with the rest for dinner and we went back to our favorite place Montana's! It's a place we dined when we were still staying at the hotel. It's been pretty long since we dined out since we cook our own meals! Used to at least have a weekend brunch out but ever since we learnt how to make eggs benny we stopped going. Anw as usual, the food at Montana's didn't disappoint. The pork ribs was so savory and yummy!! :D

Main: Pork side ribs with chipotle honey sauce
Sides: Baked potato, coleslaw and signature cornbread

HOME MADE EGGS BENNY. Don't have to visit a cafe for this anymore!
