What next?

Choosing a career path is such a big decision. I don't know what I should apply for because nothing seems to appeal to me. I need some enlightenment.

Sunday, January 27, 2013

So many things I want to do but I don't have enough time!

1. JOB APPLICATIONS. This is my top priority now, more important than catching up with school work. I really really really hope to get a job I like. I'm really putting in lots of effort so please bring me some good news.

2. Catching up with school work. Yes, I finally feel the NEED to catch up after 2 weeks of school. I'm too lost during lessons and it's worrying. I still want to pull my cgpa if I can. For once, please let my cgpa increase? I want to get the best results I ever had in uni, is it too ambitious?

3. Revamp my room. So many things to pack!! My wardrobe is in a huge mess. I need to throw/donate my clothes and make space for new ones. I feel like taking a picture of my wardrobe but I will be spoiling my image of a neat girl. HAHA. I also want to repaint my walls and make my room more spacious! NEED TO GET RID OF LOTS OF SOFT TOYS/BAGS/BOOKS/BOXES. Okay I have too many things in my room.

4. Learn to ZTZC. I have always wanted to do this but it requires lots of hardwork and commitment.

Big decisions

Visited the career fair yesterday and it left me more confused. I know I won't be happy being an auditor, but I'm not the kind that needs to be happy in what I do. I accept many things very easily and I will do my best in whatever I land up in. Just like how I studied Accountancy when I didn't even know what I was in for, but still survived anyway.

I want to move away from my degree but I don't have the balls to. I really don't feel like doing audit because of the long hours and mundane work. If I do audit, I know I'm just doing it because everyone else is doing it, it just seems like the only right choice. It is a safe path because there are good opportunities (and money) that comes if you put up with it for 2 years which is pretty enticing.

On a random note, it takes so much effort to come up with a good resume and cover letter!! I'm forever procrastinating when it comes to that. With my limited vocabulary and average writing skills, I don't know how I am going to secure any interview. For once, I really really want to get something I want.

1 day trip to Johor Bahru

Headed to JB with my mum and bro 2 weeks back. Things there are so CHEAP! 1 sgd to 2.5 rm, so worth it please! Spend money like water, I managed to shop quite a bit! :D

Had breakfast at Amoy Food Street Centre before heading to JB. My favourite LOR MEE. It's the best I have ever eaten so far, lots of ingredients and not too sticky!

After shopping around, we had lunch at a Japanese restaurant.

My favourite baby octopus!

Chicken karaage

Caught a movie Upside Down. The movie was really awesome, I don't really watch movies because they bore me most of the times but this one managed to keep me interested.

It's about 2 worlds, the Up and Down (literally), each with its own centre of gravity. The Up is rich and prosperous while the Down is poor. Going Up is strictly forbidden. A boy from Down world met a girl from Up world and fell in love. They would meet on their mountains and the guy will use a rope to pull the girl towards Down. When they hold on to each other, they form an anti-gravity object that floats. Something happened and they got separated when they were young but you got to watch to find out what happens. I love the graphics of the show, I find it very awesome how they film the up and down together!

So at level 0, that's where the Up and Down can see each other.
Honestly the first thing I thought was, won't zao keng meh? HAHA. But since there is gravity pulling it down so it won't happen.

She used the tree for support so that she would not float back Up.

I don't know if it has shown in Singapore or will be shown, but I think you should catch it! I really find it quite cool!

Garrett-like popcorn and it was very cheap! Oh we bought premium seats as well for about half the price of the normal seats you get in Singapore. The seats there were so good and comfy! Definitely will go back there to catch movies and shop!

Long lost roti boy, still as good.

Taiwan dessert store that was recommended by mum's friend.
Grass jelly with lots of ingredients. Was super super full by then, but still finished a bowl on my own. :8

Bedok 85 + Udders

Had an impromptu makan party with a very random group of friends! Just 4 of us and we ordered a crazy amount of food! Chicken wings, satay, stingray, char kway teow, fried carrot cake, oyster omelette, bak chor mee & sugarcane! No more space for ah balling but we headed to udders for ice cream instead!

Is udders supposed to be good for waffles? I felt that the waffles was alright only, probably only looks pretty for a picture. I would rather have the ice cream on its own. Love the flavours we ordered that day! Mao shan wang, rum & raisin, snickers mars honeycomb vanilla & awesomely chocolate!

Met up with LLBBDD for dinner at a Turkish restaurant called Sofra. Turkish food reminds me of the Baklava I had in Saint John. Saw it on the menu too but didn't order! Hmm I'm not very familiar with Turkish food so I had a hard time choosing. Nothing seems to appeal to me. Settled for this chicken patties in tangy tomato sauce. Anything tomato based can't go wrong!

Prawning

My virgin experience prawning! Moreover it was a late night prawning session. Prawned from 11pm to 4am! Amazing, I haven't been out till so late before. But I guess because I'm already 21, so I have the freedom now. :D Anyway, it was to celebrate johnnyboyboyboy's birthday! Haven't seen all the hallies since I went on exchange, especially the big 5 (& friends). I don't stay in hall anymore so I won't get to see them very often. :/

The funny thing is, I didn't catch a single prawn at all. I didn't even hold the rod or attempt to prawn at all. Just sat there, ate cockles and chit chat. I was so sleepy and tired when it was 1am+ (signs of ageing?) I think they caught 60+ prawns in total. We finally BBQ-ed at 3am+ and the prawns were really good with the super spicy chilli.

I think it's quite a nice place to chill the night away. Can have supper while prawning, peaceful place and good ambience. I wouldn't mind going back again, and this time I will attempt to prawn.

Happy Sunday

Craved for tau suan and my mum cooked one whole big pot for me! So yummy that I had 4 large bowls of it. When I say large, I really mean it. Each serving I had was 6 ladles full. You will be surprised how much I can eat when it comes to food I love. I'm so greedy :8 The best part about home made tau suan is that you can spam as much you tiao as you want, I always feel that they give very little you tiao outside and I always finish the you tiao faster than the tau suan. I love the combination of tau suan with you tiao! My mum bought good you tiao too, it was still very crispy unlike the soggy ones you get outside.

Finally visited Changi Village again! The previous time I went straight to Chock Full of Beans and didn't enter the hawker. Back at my favourite stall this time, I feel that the standard isn't as good now. But I'm not a picky eater, so this was still alright and I still like it because they give lots of ingredients! Not bad for $3.50.

I also finally introduced red tea jelly with longan to my family! The past few times I was always there too early and the stall is always not opened yet! Although I'm a eastie, I never knew this was a popular dessert until I went for NBS camp and got to try it. I don't think they sell this elsewhere right? Or maybe it's just more rare. Mum felt that the shaved ice can be thinner though.

Sent my CJDBZ off at night as she is leaving for exchange in Netherlands! How I wish I went to Europe too!! She even passed me a letter before she flew, so touched! I love receiving letters, and her letter was so wise and so sincere. :') Made me reflect quite abit on my way home.

And lastly, a sinful popeye's supper before heading home!

1st day of school

I was pretty excited for school since I haven't had lessons in NTU for 8 months. What made me most excited was meeting my friends whom I haven't seen for the whole semester, and also freshies whom I haven't seen since camp.

In a super good mood and did many nice things today!

1. Gave out cookies that I baked to my friends! 8 people got to try my oatmeal raisin cookies today, I really hope they are alright. I'm not a good baker, but I just wanted to share something that I made myself. I also walked to WKW to deliver cookies. Okay I never knew it was so near until I walked there myself. It was funny because I actually google mapped it and then I realized it's just a 5 minute walk away. Who uses google map to navigate around school? Me. :/

2. Met 2 exchange students from US who asked me for directions. I started chatting with them while bringing them to the right place. I can be friendly if I am not lazy.

3. Woke someone up when the train reached the final stop. I do this quite often actually, I cannot understand how people can ignore all these people who concussed and just walk out.

Okay these are just small simple acts, nothing too extreme. Just that it all happened on the same day so I feel like I did alot. I am accumulating good karma :D

Kimberley陳芳語首波主打[愛你]官方版MV(HD)

Currently addicted to this song. She is 18 and from Australia. I think she has a nice voice. The melody is so catchy and the MV is nice too!

Attempted to bake some Hong Kong style portuguese egg tarts a few days back. Followed a YouTube video and it came out decently well. So proud of myself :> Look at the flaky crust, I'm glad it turned out fine! My parents love it and I'm happy too. :D I only can do this when I am very free because it takes like 2h+ to bake everything!

Had a foodie trip on Thursday. Visited a total of 3 places just to EAT. So it was eating and eating the whole day, what's new? Can someone ask me out to do something else other than eating? Like cycling, visiting a zoo, shopping or something.

First stop: Table Manners @ Changi City Point.
I always wanted to go to this place after reading some blogs! Personally I was very interested in the lunch menu rather than dinner. For lunch, you can actually mix and match your food and this option is not available for dinner. For example, 2 greens + 1 meat or 1 green + 2 meat. I like to customize my food so I can pick everything I feel like eating. Quite a wide variety to choose from! I had 2 greens which are aglio olio and pumpkin salad with a meat which is salmon with garlic butter sauce, $13.50 before tax. I feel that is quite affordable and the portion was just right. I would want to go back again to try other dishes!

Second stop: Chye Seng Huat Hardware
Heard so much about this place so finally it's my turn to try! They are supposed to be good for coffee but I'm currently abstaining from caffeine so I got hot chocolate ($6.50) instead. Omg it's so freaking expensive but I still got it anyway because there wasn't much alternatives. The hot chocolate was average, I wouldn't pay $6.50 for it again. Bought a cranberry pistachio tea cake ($3) to go along with my drink. The cake was not bad and I like the banana cake too but didn't take a picture of it. We were supposed to chill over books that we brought but we ended up chatting the afternoon away.

Third stop: Swee Choon Dim Sum
It was my first time visiting swee choon because nobody ever jio-ed me there for dinner/supper. Sigh. Anyway I finally got to try it! I didn't know they have an air-conditioned area, all along I thought it's like a coffeeshop. HAHA okay I super suaku. Ordered only a few dishes like har gao, siew mai, xiao long bao and liu sha bao! All were very yummy! Definitely going back again, probably will ask my family along so I can get a free car ride. It's so inaccessible!

Finally got to K, and I did it for 6 hours straight. Honestly in the past it would be no kick to me, but this time, I felt so so tired. I needed to take breaks in between and I felt like I was straining my throat. When I left, my voice was hoarse. Omg the result of not singing for 4.5 months.

Had dinner at Old Airport Road, I am a lousy Eastie! I've only visited Old Airport Road only twice so far! D introduced me some prawn noodles, it wasn't too bad but I still prefer the one opposite TJ. I like my noodles and soup separate.

Went to Out of the Pan at Raffles City Shopping Centre for some waffles and crepes. Supposed to try Tiong Bahru Bakery as well but we didn't in the end. The waffles and crepes was super worth it because there is 1 for 1 if you pay by POSB card, the bill totalled to only about $12 per person for 2 waffles and 2 crepes! :D

Seafood jungle crepe. The waitress recommended this to us because we couldn't decide but it was alright only.

Peking duck crepe. Picked this after I read some reviews online. This is a must try! I like it :D

Chocolate waffles with pear ice cream. My first time trying pear ice cream and it was not bad. Desserts never fail.

Banana split waffles with chocolate ice cream and strawberry sorbet. The chocolate ice cream was good! I like the presentation of the dessert as well. I would go back for more because 1 for 1 is really super worth it!

I finally visited a brunch cafe in Singapore! I have always wanted to try eggs benedict last time but didn't have the chance and I left for exchange. Then I got to try my virgin eggs benedict in Canada. I think I had enough of eggs benedict in Canada and I could even make them myself! Not really craving for it, but I still decided to try the ones in Singapore. Introduced it to my mum and bro as well. I won't be surprised if my parents don't know what eggs benedict is, but my bro doesn't know either omg. And surprisingly my dad knows and he said he had them everyday in Australia! HAHA amazing. So anyway I brought them to Chock Full of Beans which is located in Changi Village. The eggs benny was okay only, I had much better ones in Canada! Love the latte art though, it's so cute!

Had dinner at Bedok 85! Okay I said I didn't crave for them in the previous post, but I still went ahead since it just opened. Hello unhealthy and oily food. Need to stop my parents from eating too much of such stuff!

I can't wait to go for a K session, I really miss singing.

Friday, January 4, 2013

It's been 3 days since I am back in Singapore, finally back to reality now. The weather is SO HOT omg I just want to hide indoors. It's so boring in Singapore, I'm back to my mundane life.

You know how everyone craves for bak chor mee, satay, stingray, hokkien mee, fried carrot cake and stuff when they come back? I haven't eaten a single item yet HAHA. Somehow I don't really crave for them and also because my house hawker doesn't have all those. I only ate YTF, mee rebus and prawn noodles, nothing great at all.

One of the things I wanted to do badly was to visit the cafes when I'm back. I already started listing down places I want to visit when I was back in Saint John! Can't wait to go! People I REALLY REALLY want to meet up with are not around now. So unwelcoming right! I'm back and they are gone tsk. I need all my friends to hurry come back from their holidays, wherever they are, I'm so bored :< Can't wait to hand out souvenirs to them :D

AND I PASSED ALL MY MODS IN UNB! YAY! SO HAPPY! It's the first time I'm seeing so many As! 1 A+, 1 A and 2 A-s, things I will never see in my NTU results slip. -.- Maybe I shall add a resolution to study hard and achieve the personal best GPA for my final sem. HAHA. But with the power of bell curve, I doubt that will happen. So anyway since I have passed everything, I officially have a 2 day week for the coming semester. Shiok max, now I need to think of what to do on the other 3 days. :D

Day 13: Last day in Toronto, last day of exchange

I told everyone to sleep until 自然醒 and nobody should set alarm the night before. I absolutely regret saying this. I am so so so guilty. I slept very late at like 5am and only woke up at 1pm. The rest woke up much much earlier but I think they didn't dare to wake me up because of what I said the night before. Oh my, they really can wake me up and I won't mind. That's not it. Turns out that the host, I shall call him uncle here, he wanted to fetch us to Niagara Falls to see how it looks like when it's covered with snow. It's only an hour drive away. But we all woke up too late, or rather, I woke up too late (Shoots myself) I would have loved to see Niagara Falls again although I've visited it earlier in August! So wasted :< Anyway, we had some coffee with desserts like cheesecake, shortbread and crumble cake at the uncle's home and he fetched us around his neighborhood to sightsee. So kind of him!! He also cooked a Singaporean dinner for us at night! Haven't had homecooked food since I left Saint John and he whipped up a simple but yummy feast! This made New Year's Eve better even though we are not out to countdown with the crowd. We ended up watching live telecast of the countdown at Times Square in New York, my first time watching it! The uncle also showed us some videos he took a few years ago of pride parade (les and gays parade) and some naked cycling event held in Toronto. It was so hilarious! Canadians are pretty interesting people. Just imagine people walking around or cycling naked LOL.

Anyway, this is the last official night in Canada. I was pretty sad because I really don't want to go home yet. :<

Day 12: Toronto

We were pretty lucky that we flew back on this day because a few days ago there was a snowstorm in Toronto and many flights were cancelled! But somehow we don't seem to have fate with Toronto. The previous time we were there before we started the US trip, we missed our transit to Toronto. This time, our flight to Toronto was CANCELLED without our knowledge. Luckily we got onto another flight which had the same timing, I assume it was because our flight wasn't full so they decided to combine. They could have told us earlier! We spent 1-2 hours queuing and trying to find out what happened.

It was a very long journey to get to the place we are temporarily staying in, Oakville. We had to take a ferry out of the city airport, take an airport shuttle to downtown then change to a train to get to Oakville. By the time we hopped on the train to Oakville it was already 1143pm! Lucky for us, the host was kind enough to pick us up but I felt pretty bad since it was already so late and she had to fetch us. They are really really kind Singaporeans who are living in Canada. Very thankful for them so we didn't have to pay for accommodation at all! We were sleeping at the basement of their house which was pretty huge.
